GW 7: Manchester United vs. Arsenal

Image
We’ve seen some crucial fixtures played out over the first few weeks of the Premier League season; however, none of them compare in importance to Manchester United against Arsenal which is to be played on matchweek 7. This match is set to have lasting implications on what should be an incredibly close race for the top 4. Both of these historical Premier League giants have, however, endured poor starts to the season. At current, United sit in 8th with a meager 8 points after 6 games, while Arsenal are slightly better off, with 11 points. Also, these poor recent results have been well deserved, showing that big improvements will need to be made if these sides want to push for the top 4, especially with teams like Leicester and West Ham playing far better. Although this year provides a much different prospect, these sides have always been close in the past. This was shown last year, when in three fixtures between the sides, each team won one a piece, with a draw in the mix as well.

GW 7: Bournemouth vs. West Ham

The new Premier League season is now thoroughly underway, with 6 matchweeks gone, and with more clarity amongst teams and their positions starting to appear, two teams that have emerged near the top of the table are Bournemouth and West Ham. These sides are set to face in matchweek 7, in what should be an engrossing and revealing fixture that could potentially clarify which of these teams is more deservant of their strong start to the campaign. At the moment, Both of these sides are currently above the likes of Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea who have endured poor results lately, and this means that this match could have an impact on the race for a top 6 spot. With West Ham in 5th and Bournemouth in 6th with 10 and 11 points respectively, both teams seem to be improving on past campaigns. When these sides faced last year, Bournemouth dominated proceedings, despite finishing in a lower position come the end of the season. Bournemouth won both of last season’s Premier Lea

GW 6: Chelsea vs. Liverpool

After midweek Champions League action, in which English sides fared very poorly as a whole, we return to domestic Premier League competition, in which two Champions League sides, Chelsea and Liverpool, will face each other on Sunday. These sides have enjoyed very different starts to the Premier League season, and at the moment there is a 7 point gap between them. This comes after an opening period in which Liverpool have won five from five, while Chelsea have looked less confident, with only two wins to their name. However, Chelsea do have that touch of individual quality which makes them dangerous to any team. This was shown during the last time that these teams faced, which was earlier in the season, in the Super Cup final. The teams drew 2-2 in what was quite an even game, and the match had to be settled during penalties with Liverpool coming out victorious. This is a common trend of what we have seen over the past few years as in the last six matches between the sides, four

GW 6: Leicester vs. Tottenham

Image
With another Premier League week gone by, it’s time to look forward matchweek 6 of the new Premier League campaign, in which Leicester face Tottenham on Saturday. This match in particular is set to be incredibly important, as both sides taking part will be battling for spots in the top 6, as well as possibly the top 4. At the moment, they have 8 points a piece, showing that they have started the season in similar form, which should make this match even more entertaining with the sides more even than ever. Last season Tottenham were victorious in both matches involving these sides, winning 3-1 at home and 2-0 away. However, the underlying numbers from these matches show that Leicester were often the better side, and particularly in their most recent matchup, in which Tottenham were the home side, Leicester deserved far more than the scoreline warranted. In this match Leicester took 20 shots to Spurs’ 12 with 9 coming on target compared to 5, and expected goals clearly outlines Le

GW 5: Liverpool vs. Newcastle

As we move on from the international break, and into gameweek 5 of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, we have a great early fixture for us on Saturday, with Liverpool against Newcastle starting up our Premier League weekend. There is a clear gap between these sides in terms of quality; however, they have each enjoyed strong starts to the season from their perspectives and both managers have been organizing their squads well. At the moment, Liverpool sit on top of the table with 12 points while Newcastle are in 14th, with 4 points so far. Neither team has lost in their last two games though, and this represents that they are in good form, which should help to make this match more interesting. When these sides have played in the past, Liverpool have often abolished the Magpies having won all of the last three games against them. This includes a 4-0 win when at home last year while it was much closer when at St. James’ Park, where Liverpool scraped by in a 3-2 victory. Liverpool

GW 5: Wolves vs. Chelsea

Image
The first few weeks of the new Premier League season have been eye-opening, and we’d expect that to continue in matchweek five, as the fight for a spot in the top 6 could be further illustrated. There are two crucial fixtures that should affect this area of the table, as Manchester United play Leicester while Wolves face Chelsea, both on Saturday. The main focus could be around Wolves and Chelsea though, as Manchester United are largely expected to finish within the top 6, while both Wolves and Chelsea will be battling with Leicester for that final spot, and also 7th place, which would give them a place in Europa League qualifying. Neither team have started at their best, and Leicester look far superior to both sides that will be featuring in this match, as Chelsea have just 5 points while Wolves have been especially bad, as they’re without a win having only managed 3 points. While both sides have been poor in the opening few weeks, this could prove a positive for the neutral, a

The 2019/20 Premier League season is now thoroughly underway after four matchweeks and the first international break, and we now move on to matchweek five, in which the blockbuster fixture is Manchester United against Leicester. Although in recent years these sides have often been of a different level, the bridge between the top 6 and the clubs just outside of it is becoming increasingly smaller, and this season it’s largely expected that at least one of the second tier clubs will push on into that elite category. Leicester have outperformed all of the other candidates for this spot so far, after taking 8 points from the opening 4 matches, which is 3 better than United while they are also 5 places ahead of the Red Devils who, of course, are their upcoming opponents. It’s still very early on in the season though, and while United aren’t currently at their best, this game could potentially give them a lift and get them back on track if they do manage to beat the Foxes. This will b
