GW 32: Liverpool vs. Tottenham

Image
The main attraction from this week’s batch of Premier League fixtures is undoubtedly Liverpool against Tottenham as both of these sides are part of the Premier League’s elite group of teams. With Liverpool heavily involved in the title race while Spurs are just 3 points away from dropping out of the Champions League places, this match is crucial to both of the sides and it could potentially decide a number of key factors in the positioning of teams in the league table come the end of the season. These teams have been incredibly close in recent seasons but Liverpool have come out on top when facing their opponents winning 3 of their las 6 against Spurs while Spurs have only won 1. Liverpool also won the last fixture between the sides in a fairly convincing 2-1 victory in the early months of the campaign. Although Liverpool won by a small margin, they were in control for most of the match and having gone up in the first half, they managed to keep a clean sheet until the 92nd minute

GW 32: West Ham vs. Everton

Image
This weekend we have an enticing mid table battle taking place between West Ham and Everton on Saturday. Both of these teams are involved in the incredibly close and competitive dog fight that has taken over the middle of the table for practically the entire season. With only 6 points separating the 7th to 12th place teams, both the sides that are taking place in this match fall right in the middle of this action with West Ham in 9th and Everton in 11th and only 2 points separating them, meaning a win for either team would mean bettering their opponents in the league table. In seasons gone by, this fixture has been relatively close and in recent history, West Ham have won 3 of the last 6 Premier League matches between them with Everton winning 2 while 1 came out level. The earlier match this season between the sides ended in a 3-1 West Ham victory and although this scoreline seems fairly convincing, the underlying stats show otherwise, even perhaps hinting that West Ham were lucky

GW 32: Manchester United vs. Watford

Image
After the final international break of the season, the Premier League returns for us on the 30th of March with one of the games taking place being Manchester United against Watford. This fixture looks set to be one of the most entertaining of the weekend, as both sides have some top quality within their teams, while they’re also both quite high up in the table with United just outside the Champions League spots in 5th, while Watford are not far behind in 8th, as they’ve managed to be one of the most promising and successful mid table sides. Although Watford have been quite a force in the Premier League over the last few seasons, they’ve often struggled against United, and even though the Red Devils haven’t been at their best in recent years they’ve won 5 of their last 6 against Watford, having only lost 1 Premier League game against them in their entire history. Along with this long term dominance, Manchester United achieved a 2-1 win when these sides met earlier in the season, ev

GW 31: Everton vs. Chelsea

Image
This weekend, in a week with only 5 Premier League games, we have an exciting fixture on Sunday between Everton and Chelsea. Both teams have incredibly talented sets of players and high class managers, yet for some reason they happen to both be struggling at the same time with the teams performing well below expectations at the moment, particularly in the league. Chelsea are currently well ahead of Everton in the table with the sides 20 points apart, and this is a trend that we’ve seen over the past few seasons with Chelsea mostly dominating this fixture, as they’re unbeaten in their last 5 Premier League matches and last 6 in all competitions against the Merseyside team. The last 2 though have been 0-0 draws, including the reverse fixture between them that was played earlier on in the season. In this match, Everton defended well against a Chelsea side who at this stage were playing some really good football, and it was clear that Everton were aiming for this sort of result as the

GW 31: Bournemouth vs. Newcaslte

Image
This weekend we see a significant drop in Premier League fixtures due to the FA cup matches that will also be played, meaning only 5 games are on show for us from the English top flight. On Saturday, Newcastle travel to the Vitality to play Bournemouth, and with the teams in completely different periods of form this could be interesting. With Bournemouth in 12th and Newcastle in 13th, only 3 points separate the sides as Newcastle’s recent rise has brought them within touching distance of the mid table sides. With this increased form from Newcastle while Bournemouth are slumping, we could see Newcastle come out on top, however, in recent seasons this has been a tight fixture and in the 5 times these sides have met in the Premier League each team has won 2 while 1 match came out as a draw. The earlier game this season between them ended in a 2-1 Newcastle win and at this time in the season, Bournemouth were at the peak of their powers so this was quite a surprising result, however,

GW 30: Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Image
In a blockbuster Premier League weekend, Arsenal vs. Manchester United stands out above the other games as United travel to the Emirates this Sunday. Both sides are incredibly wrapped up in the race for Champions League football as they’re the two main candidates for the 4th place spot especially considering the drop off from Chelsea recently. The sides are a mere 1 point apart coming into this match with United edging ahead of the North London side after Arsenal drew with their rivals Tottenham last week, so this is Arsenal’s perfect opportunity to get back into the Champions League places if they could manage a win. Over the last few years, both clubs have been enduring some rough periods and some poor finishes, however, Manchester United have managed to come out on top in terms of this fixture as in the last 6 matches between the sides (all competitions) Manchester United have won 3 to Arsenal’s 1. The other 2 were draws and one of these came in the reverse fixture earlier this

GW 30: Chelsea vs. Wolves

Image
In a weekend jam packed with tasty fixtures, Chelsea vs. Wolves seems to be one of a few stand out games. Chelsea and Wolves are very close in terms of placement in the table, however, Chelsea have been experiencing a major down period while Wolves are in good form at the moment, especially considering what their goals would have been at the beginning of the campaign. With Chelsea in 6th and Wolves in 7th they look very close when you take a quick glance at the table but in reality, Chelsea are still far exceeding Wolves as the teams are 13 points apart, which in a way really summarises the gulf in quality between the top and middle branches of the Premier League. These sides have played 9 times against each other in the Premier League’s history and in these mathes, Chelsea have won 7 with Wolves winning the other 2. However, one of these Wolves wins actually came in the reverse fixture between the sides in which Wolves managed a narrow 2-1 victory whilst they were at home. Chelse

GW 30: Manchester City vs. Watford

Image
After a frantic period of fixtures, the Premier League will return shortly next weekend as we’re without a midweek set of fixtures this week due to Champions League action. On Saturday, Manchester City vs. Watford is by far and away the most appealing fixture as both of these sides have had exceptional seasons so far. Manchester City are back on top of the Premier League after Liverpool drew with their rivals Everton, and they’ll be desperate to stay there by beating Watford. Manchester City have actually never lost a Premier League match against Watford and in the 9 matches they’ve played in the Premier League, City have won 7 with 2 draws. These 7 wins have come in all the last 7 games that they’ve played against each other with Manchester City unbeaten in their last 14 against Watford, and this extended run of dominance won’t exactly give the Watford players confidence coming into this match. The last match between them was relatively close as Manchester City came out on top 2-
